Phil's professional career spans thirty years of cross-cultural and non-profit service in more than 20 countries.

He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota's College of Forestry, a licensed US and Canadian commercial pilot with 2300 hours of flying time, has held flight instructor, instrument and seaplane ratings, and is a licensed aircraft mechanic.

He understands the challenges of the working person from his experiences in aviation, flight instruction, teaching, law enforcement, private security and agriculture. He has worked in a factory and proudly served eight years in the Minnesota and Tennessee Air National Guard.

Phil is an ordained Southern Baptist minister, an endorsed chaplain to international seafarers, and a Civil War re-enactor who portrays a Union Battlefield chaplain. He has also been involved in prison ministry.

He and his wife, Debbie, have served in missions since 1976, first in Indonesia as a missionary pilot, and later as a missionary and pilot in northern Canada. Their 15 years of ministry with Campus Crusade for Christ's JESUS Film Project has taken him to more than 20 countries.

In 2002 they started Port of Hope Ministries and Port of Hope Ministries Canada as an outreach to seafarers on international cargo vessels.

He is happily married to Debbie, and they have three great sons and a fantastic daughter, a wonderful daughter-in-law and son-in-law and five grandkids.

Phil is also a public speaker. He challenges his listeners to overcome personal fears, to reach goals they gave up on, and become people of influence, high integrity and strong personal faith. His messages are filled with illustrations from a lifetime of stories from his experiences around the world.
